Young Parent Program     
The mission of the YPP is to provide a caring, learning environment which promotes self-growth, independent thinking and the desire to continue learning throughout life. Family and Independent Living Skills classes specifically dealing with issues of teen parenthood are offered as well as parenting curriculum. Students also earn credit and experience while working in the nursery. The program encourages choices and opportunities for change and growth, thus empowering the student to succeed individually within the family and the society. All goals and objectives meet or exceed District 51 standards. No transportation is provided by District 51. YPP students who meet certain criteria also have the option of the Work Keys Diploma (Key Performance Program). A performance-based diploma based on demonstrating knowledge and competencies rather than credits.

This program is offered to parents of infants or expecting parents who are less than 21 years old and seeking a high school diploma. Day care is provided for their infants while they are attending class. Full time students attend school 7:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily. Young parents on the waiting list may attend the Student Learning Center until a full time position opens. Two hours of daycare is provided to these students in the afternoon.
